Heather’s Happy Hour: Canterbury Park

Everyone likes being happy and everyone likes deals, right?  I am pleased to introduce a new feature on Minnehappiness, brought to you by guest blogger Heather.  Heather will be bringing you reviews on her favorite happy hour joints, complete with prices, location and her own little sparkle.  Without further ado, here’s Heather!

I will start with Minnesota’s self-proclaimed “Biggest Happy Hour.” Canterbury Park, located in Shakopee, is a great site to meet on a Friday after a long week. It has all three things I look for in Happy Hour:

1. Cheap Drinks
2. Cheap Food
3. Something to Keep My Attention (SKMA)

The drink specials are great and range from $2 for a domestic tap to $4 for a fantastic margarita. All of the bars serve the specials so you don’t need to wait in a specific line.

The food special is my favorite-half price pizzas! You can get a giant slice for less than $3. It is enough to keep you full. Plus they have Famous Dave’s, BWW, and snack food available for reasonable prices.

The best part is they have live music and live racing. They keep you entertained with blackjack at the track, different betting styles, and a different band each week. There are many locations to watch your race so you can constantly keep moving. If you prefer to just sit and drink, the bar on the top-level has some great bartenders and great people watching.

The only exception is the cover charge ($3-5).  But if you are near the south metro there seems to be free entry tickets everywhere if you keep your eyes open!

On your marks, get set, go!

*Canterbury is located off Highway 169 and Canterbury Road (County Road 83) and opens at 4:00 on Fridays.
