Wet market…Sheung Wan

Mind you, I don’t want to give any bad information, but I often get lost.  I do a lot of wandering around.  Even though I’m fairly certain these photos were taken in Sheung Wan, I’m not entire sure this is what is called a “Wet Market”, but I’m mostly sure.

There are a lot of things to see when you come across these markets…fruit, vegetables, meat being butchered, fish being gutted, people selling random goods.  You never know what you’ll come across.  My favorite was the shoelaces stand with luggage in one stand.  This particular market was all in small crowded pedestrian streets, where you walk up the hill and peruse to your heart’s content.

I used to be an early bird

Our attempt at light painting.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been woken up by me in the morning.  In any form: text, phone call, knock on your door, pillow being lobbed at you…

Put your hand down, you look ridiculous.

I’m known for being an up-and-at-’em kind of girl.  I like to wake up early, seize the day, then later if the day is decidedly not worth seizing, I will take a nap.

Not the case here.  My partner in crime happens to be a night owl, which never used to keep me from crawling into bed at 10:30.  Because I have no early morning activities (job, farmers market to attend, etc.), I’ve found myself staying up late.  *GASP*

This results in me sleeping in.  Confession.  It got out of hand today.  I didn’t pull myself out of bed until 11:00– just in time to start cooking brunch.  Mind you, I was awake, just not up and at ’em.

This means I didn’t get to use the phrase, “Jousan” (say it like: Joe-sahn) today.  There you have it, a confession and a Mumbling Monday all in one.

Thanks for tuning in!

PS: The photo is from my pal and my attempt at light painting.  She made the face, while I ran around and did those little red squiggly lines.  We are planning on getting a bunch more girls recruited with more colors to do this with us, I’ll put up more pictures when we have them.  Late night activities like this are just another reason I sleep in.  Excuses, excuses.

EDIT: I have been up and busy since before 7am today (the very next day).  Apparently a confession was all I needed to shame myself into action.

The world just got smaller

The world is crazy out there, everything moving so fast.  I was feeling homesick these past few days, wishing I could just quick send a text to my family or bike to my buddies’ houses.

So, I did what anyone would do who has mass quantities of time on their hands.  I went shopping.

To the apple store.  Oops.

Actually, not oops.  I don’t regret it.  I can’t get internet on my phone, so I can’t use apps.  What is a life without apps like?  Totally fine, but it’s a great way to stay connected.  My new iPod Touch gets wi-fi, apps, and as long as I’m connected, I can do anything possible.

If you have IOS 5  and you want to iMessage, that would be awesome.  Let me know if you have it, and if you need help,  I can walk you through how to set it up- and we can text for free.  Free.  Do it.

I am able to chat on google plus,  so if you’re not a mac user, you can find me on there, it’s pretty much like texting.  In fact, I’d be surprised if I didn’t find you first.  I’m creepy like that. I’ll race you, ready, GO!

If you’re into a social game and want to challenge me, I welcome it.  I’m currently battling it out with a pal on Draw Something.  If you want to show me an awesome recipe app, go for it.  I’m pretty new to the social games, so introduce me to fun ones!  If you want  me to never leave the house  again, show me Monopoly Hotels since it is super addicting…. it’s been done already.  I do not play farmville though.  Sorry.

If you have any cool app suggestions, or messaging tools, let me know.  I’m game to try anything out- and would love to connect with you!

Tiffany Chou Jewelry

I have this secret desire to be a jewelry designer.  Cruising around the internet, putting off productivity, I found Tiffany Chou’s website.  While she is NYC based, she hails from Maui which has clearly influenced her work.  Her pieces are delicate reminders of the all-powerful ocean.

These are three of my favorite pieces, but all of her work is stunning.  Happy Aloha Friday!

In Yo’ Face

In Yo’ FACE, Mong Kok.  If you’re an avid reader of all 36 of my posts, you’ll recall that I had been lost for hours looking for a dang art supply store.  I found it.  The real art supply store, along with a yarn store and a craft store.  Feels like a hundred bucks.

Now, incase you’re interested in going, get on the red line, to Mong Kok Station, and exit B1, B2, B3 or at the Prince Edward Station exit B.  Head towards Bute and Sai Yee, there should be a street map on a pole when you exit.

Nice Art supply store:
Kwong Yick Art & Design Materials Ltd
G/F, 169 Sai Yee St, Mong Kok
Tel:2393 2277

Crafty Craft store:
Craft Supply store
G/F, 173 Sai Yee St, Mong Kok
Tel: 2392 0969

Yarn Store:
Filo Kilo
G/F, 167 Sai Yee St, Mong Kok
Tel: 2392 9729

The most important step to getting there is either remembering these directions, or writing them down.  Both of which I did not do the first time.  Learn from my mistakes.  Now, go young grasshopper, and be artsy fartsy.

I’m off to knit something.

Moe Mon Tai

If you happen to get yourself into a situation that you aren’t necessarily fond of, but it’s not the end of the world, go ahead and try out the phrase for “No Problem”.

Say it like this: Moe Mon Tai.

I believe it’s normally used to diffuse a situation, but I haven’t gotten myself into any real issues with anyone, so I like to use it when something small happens, like when the magazine stand doesn’t have any Ying Mon magazines.

“Ying Mon?” -Me, pointing at the magazines.

“No.”-Handy magazine stand dude/lady

“Moe Mon Tai. Ng Goy” -Me

WHOA.  Did I just toss you a 2-fer?  Sure did.  “Ng Goy” means a plethora of things, I use it all the time, and just hope it’s the right situation.
Try pronouncing the Ng part as if you just said “Sing” but with out the S and the I.  Goy is pronounced more like “Guy” but that’s just how I hear it.  It can mean any thing from “Thank you, Please excuse me, Please, Can I, Oops…” and that’s all I know of right now.  If you want someone to get out of your way,  you toss a “Je Je” on the end.
Say that like, “Ng Guy zhee zhee.”.

Thanks for tuning into Mumbling Monday.  Tune in next week to see if I’ve learned anything new or if I just let this week’s 2-fer ride out.
